RED THUNDER BISON RANCH

 In the Beginning

In the early 1960’s; a young boy found a nickel. But this nickel was different. It had a buffalo on one side. He took it to his father who explained all about the buffalo and how they were almost extinct. At that moment a dream was born. This boy was going to buy thousands of acres out west and save the buffalo.

Just like most childhood dreams; it faded as school; then career took precedence. Forty years later this man discovered that buffalo meat was being used to treat things like heart disease and in some cases, cancer. The joy of knowing the Mighty Buffalo were no longer in danger was quickly extinguished when he learned that some ranchers were raising them like cattle. Putting them in feed lots and feeding grain which produces white fat. This makes the animal heavier and naturally brings a higher profit.

But confined animals also develop diseases so medicines are also added to their diet to prevent disease. Unfortunately white fat is extremely high in cholesterol and feeding grain reduces the medicinal properties people expect when they buy buffalo meat.  Once again the buffalo needed to be saved but this time; from the industry. Luckily the man was blessed with a wife that saw the necessity to preserve the bison in its natural habitat and also preserve any medicinal discoveries that may be found in the future. She embraced the dream and made it hers. Now, we are proud to present:
